You have the urge to pull. You can resist the urge, but it can take a lot of effort to do so. If you give in, you may or may not like what you feel after you pull (exhilaration, pleasure), but you probably don’t like how you feel (guilt, shame, despair) or the end result of pulling (i.e., bald spots, thinning or non-existent hair, eyebrows or eyelashes, etc.). You feel out of control and powerless to change it.
This is a typical scenario and when it comes down to it, we have to start at the beginning – with the urge to pull. If we can eliminate the urge to pull, we can eliminate everything that comes after it.
The urge to pull begins in the brain. It is controlled by chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. When these chemical messengers are out of balance, you feel out of control. Your brain is literally sending out signals you don’t want, and you are powerless to control them over time.
What if you could get those chemical messengers sending the right signals – the signals that you want? You would regain control.
What if you could eliminate the urge to pull? You would be free of all the emotional baggage that comes along with years, and sometimes a lifetime, of pulling.
You can do this. We can show you how.
By giving your body the nutrients it needs to properly balance your neurotransmitter levels, you can regain control and eliminate the urge to pull – completely, once and for all.
You don’t need to understand why this works (if you do, just look through this site); you just need to understand that it works. It’s about getting back to the basics and starting at the beginning – the source. The source of your urge to pull is an imbalance in neurotransmitter levels. We can help you get them back into balance. But you have to let us; all you have to do is call.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Please take that step.
I’ve been pulling out my eyelashes since the second grade. Possibly before that. I am now 29 years old. I dont know what started the disorder or why it still affects me. It frustrates me to no end that I cant control it. Im just trying to figure out what triggers it. There are times I dont think about it and my lashes will grow out full, thick, and beautifully. Then one day, out of the blue, I will find myself pulling because it just feels good. Its like a good feeling kind of pain. It tingles as I pull, then once its out, theres a feeling of relief. Then I have to do it again. Then again, etc. I dont know why I get the urge in my eyelashes though. Why not my head? Why not my legs or arms or someplace I can easily cover up and disguise from this judgemental world? I know bad things have happened to me as a child. Even worse things as an adult. But why do I do this? I cant help it. It controls me. And I hate it! Is there really a way to fix my troubled brain?
Hi Problem Child,
Thank you for sharing your story. It may comfort you to know that I hear similar stories and frustrations from many women with trich. The feeling of not being in control and being helpless when faced with the intense urges to pull are very common and very real. As for the reason, we have found that certain brain chemicals seem to control the intense urges to pull. When we supply the body the building blocks it needs to restore optimal neurotransmitter function, the urge to pull disappears. This change can occur quite quickly (within days or weeks) but can take several months for others. We have yet to find a way to determine who responds quickly vs. those that take longer to see results. The bottom line, however, is that we have seen a 100% success rate once proper neurotransmitter function is restored.
If you haven’t already done so, be sure and download our free report on why you can’t stop pulling (https://stoppullinghairout.com/free-report/). Trichotillomania is not a character flaw and the urges you experience are certainly not due to any fault of your own; the urges to pull are due to imbalances in brain chemistry that can be corrected. I have been pulling my hair for.. maybe 30 years now. I’ve always thought one day I’ll get rid of this horrible “habit”. I have become its prisoner. I’ve always felt shame doing it and thought it’s only probably me. Haven’t seen anyone else doing it.
Lately, I thought I should just type online, “I am pulling out my hair”, and I found that I wasn’t the only one. I have probably spent a good one quarter of my life pulling my hair. I am so tired of it.
I am not sure what kind of help/treatment this site offers, so I’d appreciate someone getting back to me to let me know.
Thank you.
Seta
HI Seta,
Thanks for reaching out and contacting us! As you can see from this site and countless others out there, you are most certainly not the only one, although it can feel like it.
What we do is address the underlying brain chemistry imbalances that are often at the heart of trichotillomania. By giving the body the nutrients it needs to restore proper neurotransmitter (brain chemical) function, we can eliminate the cause of the urges to pull in most people. Some people see a complete elimination of symptoms within a couple days (which is terrific!); however, some take several months to years to optimize their amino acid dosing. Most people find relief in weeks to months.
This site contains a LOT of information on the science behind what we do as well as a good collection of people that we’ve helped. If you feel this approach makes sense to you after having a look around the site, please give us a call to set up a brief initial phone consultation so we can get started (it’s just $60).
Good luck – I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you –
Sincerely,
Dr. Chad
